If you want to feel appreciated, go to a
retirement home and entertain the residents. Dancing, singing,
storytelling... anything. The lovely folks at Wheatland were truly
happy to have our group perform. I think we got more out of it than
they did. Thanks to all my belles for the hard work.

We all have troubles in our life; work, kids, partners, friends, family, finances... the list is never ending. We get so terribly bogged down in life and we simply don't live it. I am just as guilty as the next person, if not more so. I want to promote the peace that can be acheived through dance, or any artistic expression. Mena & the Gypsy Belles performed at the 1st International Day in Mount Airy, NC. We performed a beautiful Persian dance and a fun Khaligi dance, both chorepgraphies by Samra. We also danced an Arabic-inspired number in which all students participated. I danced a Latin fusion that is so much fun, also choreographed by Samra. I am such a terrible blogger. I have all these great thoughts that I want to convey and they never quite make it to the page. So, I will give a little update for Spring 2011.
Winter session got off to a late start due to bad weather, so I am extending the class schedule a few weeks. It's fine, we aren't in a race. Wow, its a cliche, but I can't believe that we have begun a new year, 2011.
Of course I want to do all the normal stuff most people want to do; lose weight, be a better person, spend more time with the fam, do better with my finances... blah, blah, blah. I have narrowed the horrid, obilgitory resolutions to specifics. Here ya go...
1. Drink more water
2. Pay off one credit card
3. Stop commiting to everything... learn to say no
4. Stop swearing as much

Oh, the stage name. Am I the only dancer who struggled with this? I mean, what's the point really. Or that's what I thought to begin with. I simply didn't understand. Some dancers I knew already had wonderful and exotic given names. Why not use their real name? At the same time, some dancers picked out stage names that didn't make any sense or were anything but exotic. What the... So, I had issues with my dancer name. My last session of 2010 has just ended and I wanted to pause and thank the wonderful ladies that are brave enough to be my students. I was terrified to teach, but these girls have made teaching an incredible experience. My various injuries during the year have caused some classes to be cancelled and have caused me to teach with half a body sometimes. Looking forward to 2011 !!!!!!
